Cheers Chris,

I feel that these interfaces are both confusing but for different reasons.

http://code.google.com/p/openid-selector/ doesn't provide the user with a familiar set of options for logging in. Most users would probably expect to see two boxes, username/email and password (probably pre-filled by their browser). Instead they are faced with an array of logos that look more like links than buttons or selection options.

https://www.idselector.com/ presents an input box containing 'http://'. This doesn't look like a login box either - more like a location field. Surely, the http:// can be defaulted on the server-side on submission. Sure that, field gets automatically built according to the provider format, but at first the input box doesn't look like the right place to start logging in.
In addition, when the user focuses on the input and the provider selection appears, a second input comes into play. I now have 2 inputs a login screen. I believe that to many users, this will appear to be the logical place to type their password (googel/yahoo!/whatever).
The screencast was broken past about 3 minutes for me, so this might've become clearer later.

My method to emulate a novice user - remove ALL the text and see if it's still obvious what to do!

But these are just my opinions - the important question is - have any user studies been done on any OpenID login interfaces?
OpenID as a "scent" word... I love it! ;)

Your feedback is very useful, Brian -- thanks.

This interface is similar to the IDSelector interface (which I find
equally confusing):

https://www.idselector.com/

Would be great if this list could be used for UI reviews of OpenID
implementations by folks in the design industry -- wow, that'd be
great! ;)
