Login dialog strawman based on IIW discussion

Johannes-it's great to see these examples (and thanks for Chris for
blogging them, since I hadn't signed up for the UX mailing list yet). 

 

One suggestion: you might consider using the OpenID logo next to the
"Use OpenID" link. I think the logo is very recognizable, and it would
help OpenID people see the option more clearly. I think it's also
sufficiently small and neutral that, in general, it would not interfere
with the existing design of the page.

 

The "No password?" link is a bit too prominent/confusing for my taste,
but I do think it would benefit users (and OpenID) if you put some brief
text below the OpenID login box, including some instructions and a link
to "what is OpenID?". The instructions might be "Enter your OpenID URL,
host name, or i-name to log in." The advantage of the link will also be
that every curious non-openID user who clicks "Use OpenID" can then get
an explanation of OpenID, including hopefully some links of sites where
you can get your own OpenID link.
