Using dots in HTTP request parameters

I am part of the group working on the OAuth specification. Currently the
OAuth protocol uses parameters prefixed with 'oauth_'. OpenId 2.0 uses
'openid.' as its prefix. I would like to change OAuth to use the same syntax
as OpenID and prefix all parameters with 'oauth.'.
OAuth is designed to work with old browsers, cell phones, webtv, etc. Is
there any reason not to use dot in parameters name? Are there any known
compatibility or support issues (compared to using underscores)?
Thanks,
EHL
