Sorry, I was too fast stating that it works.
The library just cuts off the "user(at)" prefix.

Now that is definitely the worst thing to happen,
because it maps an infinite number of
valid identities to just one.

So, why not take that "@" containing URL
(maybe append an http:// as done today)
and use it as the URL for discovery?

What is wrong about that string as an
OpenID?

Only the web server at example.com has
to provide html or xrds depending on the
"user@" prefix. No problem.
