Hi all – on the last call we discussed some concerns with the acronym for Shared Signals and Events, SSE, clashing with the new Gartner Secure Service Edge term.
There is also the historical discussion around clashes with Server Sent Events. We've also spent a lot of time over the past few years on the prescriptive vs descriptive debate relating to events vs signals.
We considered potentially using CAEP as the main core spec name and renaming the CAEP events to something else. Instead, we came to rough consensus that we should renamed the "Shared Signals and Events (SSE) Framework" to the "Shared Signals Framework (SSF)". Outside of a Linux foundation project called "openSSF", there are no other known tech-related conflicts with the SSF acronym.
For those who couldn't make the call, if you have feedback, please reply to this email to share with the group. During the next call, we will review feedback and make a final decision.
If we decide to adopt the shorter name and SSF acronym for the core spec name, we will then discuss whether we should change the working group name to match, assuming it does not trigger everyone to have to resubmit contribution agreements.
Thanks!
Tim
