Hi Roland,
I'm of course not the expert, Jim Basney is (also on this list), but
there is some discussion on the scitokens discuss list (see
https://scitokens.org/#email-lists archive only visible to subscribers,
but subscription is open) and there is among others an implementation
forked from CILogon's OA4MP codebase, see https://github.com/scitokens
Additionally there is also an C++ implementation, I presume it's used by
e.g. xrootd.
Ultimately - I would say - it's an OAuth2 implementation using JWT
bearer tokens.
