FAPI WG

NIST has published a landscape review of Open Banking landscape for the
benefit of US market participants. OIDF & FAPI are mentioned in several
places related to the UK implementation, and privacy principles. However,
they seek to avoid any specific recommendations on APIs or action US
authorities should take going forward.

I presume the FAPI WG will wish to review this paper comment on this draft
publication during the comment period Jan 3 – March 3 2022. I believe the
foundation will also wish to make a legal statement around the general
availability of our open standards, under their request for patents (or
absence of patent claims) on page iv. Overall this seems like an important
opportunity to engage with NIST and clarify our market role, and in so
doing, help ensure other US government officials are also well informed. It
may also be an important opportunity to incorporate corrections where we
believe facts may not be accurate, for instance, they do not mention that
FAPI is the security profile selected in many of the markets they
summarize. By neglecting to make those notes, it may not be clear to the
reader that FAPI is the most common selected security profile and it allows
markets to work towards global interoperability.

I hope the FAPI WG can discuss next steps in your next meeting?

I will raise this topic with the OIDF Executive Committee this Thursday for
their awareness and guidance as well.

Gail
