The question here is who is taking on FAPI and for what.

The UK vision (as expressed in the open-banking slack channel), is based on the banks become "Dumb Pipes for Moving Money" while the customer facing (*Entirely Proprietary*) payment apps and associated services are to be supplied by everything from minuscule startups to large suppliers.

Personally, I believe [even] the UK banks will eventually realize that if the don't take control of everyday payments, they could actually be toast.

Banking <> Consumer Payments.  FAPI is IMO more suited for Banking than for Consumer Payments.  The latter needs a lot more than an security solution. I doubt merchants and consumers will enjoy dealing with a lot of quite different payment apps.

Maybe we (the consumers...) are [somewhat involuntary] waiting for Amazon to set things straight? :-)
