Should not even discuss until there is an IPR declaration from someone as we don't want to pick up any encumbered technology

Not only that, but Persona had some very good aspects to it that we as a working group would be silly to ignore. I know that many in the working group here have been following Persona (and BrowserID before it) for a while, but now is probably a good time to look at it holistically and find out what worked and what didn't, and adopt all of the best ideas that make sense. Like, what if we could leverage a browser extension to start an OpenID Connect flow, but without getting rid of the ability to use it without browser extensions? This might be particularly desirable for the self-issued IdP use case, as well.

This had been rumored for a while and now the press has picked it up as well. It's nice that the TechCrunch article referenced OpenID Connect as part of the context of the article.
We shouldn't take this as a sign of victory, per se. It just means that one competing identity system failed to gain adoption.
At this point, we need to be laser focused on things that will drive OpenID Connect adoption. Adoption is hard.
