I think if you're serious about your concerns, you should take a look at the efforts that have been made to address this issue and help to push OpenID 2.1 forward, which, among other things, proposes allowing email-style identifiers to be used in OpenID flows:

http://wiki.openid.net/OpenID_Authentication_2_1

General OpenID usability is something that we're attempting to address this year; we're certainly aware of these issues, and the best way to make real progress is to help by crafting specifications that express clearly how to address the current shortcomings of the protocol.

To use another aphorism: "talk is cheap". If you are interested or vested in the success of OpenID and believe that email addresses should be part of the protocol, you can make a different by helping to push OpenID 2.1 forward.

The url's you pointed out and others like those are testimony to the lack of
foresight in the original openid 1.0 specification. Open id 2.0 was the
bandage and glue applied to 1.0. And directed identity is really the only
way to go.
What I find shocking is the obvious attempt by some people to brush our
concerns under the carpet, by tactics like glossing over the issue, putting
words into my mouth, diverting the real issue into some other direction.
However I must admit there were also a couple of responses that tried to
explain there point of view, which i did appreciate.
