Would someone mind pointing me to or forwarding me the discussion that explains "even if built on Google's app engine by a Google employee, this is not Google support for OpenID"?

I'm confused and curious and want to get caught up.

Well, it's quite simple. The OpenID provider (http://openid-provider.appspot.com/) is built on Google's AppEngine (http://code.google.com/appengine/). The guy who built it is a Google employee, Ryan Barrett (http://snarfed.org/). However the OpenID provider is not an official Google product.

The only official Google product currently supporting OpenID is blogging platform Blogger.

Carsten
--
http://www.notsorelevant.com
http://spreadopenid.org
