I create an XAuth key at whatever site is holding my photos, so they 
can authorize Facebook (or their browser; I'm not clear on where the 
active agent is that retrieves data) to retrieve those photos and 
display them to the user.

Not very different from the link-sending solution you describe. I'm 
not sure OpenID is doing much for "sharing data across the walled 
gardens". In fact, it sounds like Facebook's own progress in that 
regard had nothing to do with OpenID.

The problems I've seen discussed on this list, with OpenID somehow 
being associated (at least in our minds) with a solution, seem very 
far from what OpenID is doing now.
