[OpenID] International representation on the 2011 OpenID Board of Directors

Don,

The reality is that with only two board members form outside the us and the vast majority coming from the San Francisco Bay area the foundation winds up being rightly perceived as a Bay area club.

We were unable to organize a directors meeting for Washington DC this year. One was planned next to IIW east, Nat and I booked and attended, but the board meeting was cancelled.

I am a bit frustrated at how the board and foundation supports international activity. The resolution is nice but we need real action.

Nat and I have helped organize two summits in Europe this year, with limited support.

If I run again, I will be pushing for one East coast Board F2F and one European one (I would ask for South America but small steps)

I want the foundation to support at least two Summits in Europe one in conjunction with a board meeting so we can have the board members attend.

We also need to support at least one summit in Asia.

Nat and I as community board members have to pay thousands of dollars every year out of our own pockets to attend. The other board members need to suck it up and bare some of the cost of being an international organization as well.

I also think that we need to be better organized for the election to get one or two europeans on the board. Last time the vote was split across two many candidates. Perhaps we can organize a primary or consensus decision on the list to have two people run for the region.

We can discuss a strategy for that on the openid-ed list.

I hope we still have people like Kick and others who are still interested in running.

I recognize that a lot of the key people involved in developing openID are from the Bay Area and are important to the community.
However if we want openID to be successful we need to move beyond that initial group of people.

So I would like to discuss my running with other non US people to put together a slate that increases international participation.
That slate may or may not include me at the end of the day. Time is running short. We should probably get organized before the conference in the Hague Dec 8.
