eduroam is based on a confederation of national identity federations,
typically operated by a country's National Research and Education
Network (NREN).

Apart from eduroam, many NRENs also operate an identity federation based
on SAML (or similar protocols) for web-based SSO, much like InCommon in
the US.

Some of those NRENs are bridging their SAML-based identity federations
with OpenID. For example RedIRIS, the Spanish NREN, has such a service
operational, and SURFnet, the dutch NREN, is experimenting with a
similar service.

So, to get back to your question: eduroam may not be an obvious match
with OpenID considering their different domains (secure network access
vs Web SSO), but if you are interested in finding out what is happening
with OpenID in relation to identity federations from European NRENs, it
may indeed be worthwhile to exchange experiences (and funnily enough,
you may very well end up talking to the same people that are involved in
eduroam).

Cheers,

Is there some connection to OpenID or are you just generally interested?
