While checking out whitepages.com¹s new Yahoo OpenID implementation (really
awesome!) I noticed that the Windows Live ID option now gives users the
choice of authenticating with either password or Information Card. This is
the first time I¹ve seen stronger auth options on a real production website
that accepts OpenID.
In my personal opinion, one of OpenID¹s major benefits for website owners is
that they can implement a single interface (OpenID) that can give users
different authentication options, including multi-factor auth, or an
Information Card. It¹s very likely that having the user sign into an RP
using an account that they already have and frequently use, is both more
secure and more usable than having the user register and login using a local
userid and password.
