That's the LOA#2 issue : should openid be something more than what it is?
I suspect there is a large camp that feels it's a red herring and a distraction from the main mission.
My gut feeling is that even if a revised mission is commended, a minor tweak of the existing SSL world can do 99% of what's being claimed for signed XRD and cross-domain delegations.
