Agreed, there's quite a lot of discussion here that may not be of interest to all the subscribers, but as Chris points out, the OIDF doesn't have the resources to moderate the list. Rather we'd like to encourage people to utilize specific lists for more narrowly targeted topics when possible and only use this list when it doesn't fit one of the other lists or you feel it will be of interest to the majority of subscribers. If we need more categories of lists for specific topical discussions we can easily set them up, just ask.
You can see the list of the current topics at http://lists.openid.net/mailman/listinfo/

Even this thread has a low signal-to-noise ratio.
Perhaps part of the problem is that it's unclear who the moderators
are, or should be. Many if the creators or original proponents that
used this list have moved on or gotten too busy to participate here
and as such, there is little steering going on here.
It would seem like a useful exercise then to figure out who is
perceived to be a moderator, who wants to do it, and how they should
fulfill that role.
I too would like to see more substantive, respectful discourse on this
list, but am far too overstretched to be on the line to moderate it
effectively.
Chris
