I've seen a few lists that publish this sort of statistics report regularly.
For an active list, that's usually every week.
It seems to provide a constructive bit of passive guidance, in that most
reasonable participants pay attention to their own pattern of postings and
modify their behavior according to their own sense of what is appropriate.
Obviously, it won't do much for participants who are impervious to social
concerns. But for most of us, it causes us to reflect on whether we are getting
carried away with our enthusiasm and, instead, might want to throttle back.
