[OpenID] HTML vs. Yadis discovery

Hello,

I'd like my OP to be able to verify a user via a general id such as
'www.mydomain.com' instead of 'user.mydomain.nl' or
'www.mydomain.com/user'. According to how I read the OpenID
Authentication 2.0 specifications this is only possible if I support
Yadis discovery. Is this true or is this also possible with a 'plain'
HTML based discovery (which has my preference)?
