They want power. Power that is currently in the hands of the RP's (or 
the E-mail providers, if you wish). Which only makes sense, since it 
is those RP's which are (directly) involved with the user in their 
transactions.

Of course, that hub-spoke model isn't the user-centric model which 
*does* empower users to easily flit between OP's, at each user's whim.
