We've already got web of trusts (WoT)
for a very long time. They're effective.

The only effective web of trusts are based on personal knowledge. Wots such as pgp rarely go beyond personal reputation models.

The question for openid and wots is whether the model can work with transactions requiring medium assurance. For example, the reputation level assigned by party R based on feedback from any one of a million users - where there are many R.
