The history of the internet is ALSO strewn with the monuments to
technologies that were built by the users, i.e. a "committee" of
technologically knowledgeable people *from the community* who were
inclined to participate.

I haven't heard it, but then, in the circles I move in, racial
superiority and anti-diversity aren't very popular sentiments, to say
the least. Logically, too, nothing similar comes to mind; sometimes a
camel really is just what you need, to rebut that maxim using its own
terms, and dismissing it because we can't imagine anyone else needing
or wanting anything but a horse isn't very far-sighted ;)

A horse is the only way to go. Those people who asked for camels just
weren't farsightful enough to know what they needed.

If the attempts are so obvious, they needn't be explained. Oh wait .
. . no, I don't think that will go over well here. If you have
accusations to make, make them substantially - that IS, after all,
how community enforcement of standards *works*. Make your case,
explicate the use of tactics such as "glossing over the issue",
"putting words into your mouth", and "diverting the real issue into
some other direction". Don't just make shocked noises and mumble
vague words to the effect of other people doing bad things, share
your insight with the group and expose your reasoning to agreement -
or criticism.
