Before we get too far into the varieties of text string that can be
used, shouldn't we try at least a small-scale user study where they
are presented with a text string that they are already accustomed to
having a specific use (and meaning, in context), then seeing whether
they attempt to use it in the normal context despite it being
presented in another? My belief is that, even with a disclaimer
warning them that the text string which *looked* like an E-mail
address might not necessarily *be* an E-mail address, they'd still
expect to be able to use it as one. Which means ID's would need to
take into account *all* naming conventions, or at least the popular
ones, even outside the space they were normally using.
