Peter,

I think the key distinction is the one that Eric made: no  
modification to the client.  That just strikes me as increasingly  
improbable, no matter what the solution in practice is, even though  
I'm a big fan of Cardspace in theory.  I think we're going to have to  
solve discovery with the browsers we have today.
