So the experiment with directed I'd to allow users to release different identity urls/synonyms to subsets of relying part sites has failed. Even yahoo has withdrawn, I believe.

There seems resistance by the portals to participating in (user directed) vanity delegation (using third parties). More and more, folks are citing (vague) "liability" issues.

We seemed to be left with rp sites simply enabling plural account linking, to retain some measure of user control and autonomy from an overbearing idp.

Of course, there is also the clickpass / ping identity / azure acs proxy model, based on assertion relaying. For ping, translation is a hidden cloud matter: for clickpass it's an explicit relaying ui: for azure, it's the whole role/privilege resource sts story.

FYI, the Live ID Team has posted a blog post giving a status update on the Live ID OpenID Provider Community Tech Preview and some of the lessons learned (particularly around UI / user experience) which you guys may find of interest.

I bet you all thought we had forgotten about this stuff ;-), but we are actively working on the production OP release for Live ID users.

Unfortunately I cannot publicly share any specific schedule details at this stage. Stay tuned though :)
