[OpenID] FreeYourID shutting down

As a consumer i want to pay if I am served faster, more personalised and save direct costs doing things electronically.

In some countries people are willing to pay for online authentication, because otherwise they have to wait at the local office for hours, buy a busticket or poststamp. This can be stimulated by the RP's offering discounts for doing a transaction online. RP' are now getting the benefits of both worlds, saving costs for not issuing tokens and saving costs because the consumer sends everything electronically. 

If this is they way consumers are going to see authentication this will show us a businessmodel. If the consumer will pay, even idp's might PAY rp's to offer their authentication solution and share authentication income

Another option is the IDsense way, where RP's will start paying for my valuable credentials

Perhaps, but then no-one really figured out how to monetize search until 
Google came along and discovered the revenue wasn't in search itself (rather 
adwords). People are still trying to figure out where the money is in SN. I 
suspect the way to make cash in OpenID - or Identity in general won't be as 
obvious as paying for your identity.

Another thing was the barrier of support. Until FB, Google, MS and so on 
provide a reasonable level of support it's hard to sell OpenID (not the idea 
but sell it to a consumer that will pay for it). Therein lies the conundrum 
:-)
