Nothing prevents you from volunteering. Volunteers don't have to be
members in order to volunteer. Anybody can provide code, write docs,
propose specs and be involved at the mailing lists and events.
Besides I'm personally fed up to hear the whining of some of the "crowd"
wherever I go, the minute "it costs something". If you want to be part
of a local football club or anything else, you must likely have to pay a
membership fee. But ohohohoo...not so on the Internet...: "I volunteer
and have to RIGHT to reserve respect, thanks and the whole world for my
contribution".
I'd happily propose to skip the fee for some third world country member,
but 100 bucks is a few pint less at the pub...not out of reach for most
of you...
Sorry for my rant, it's not really personal...you simply happened to say
those things at this time...
