e.g.: Visit https://get.mp/ and http://chi.mp/what-is-chimp
Initially ".mp" was the ccTLD of "Northern Mariana Islands"
Today very focused on OpenID.........

Why would google object? Its core market expansion for adword bidding.
The same "evil" is true for VeriSign too. More domains, more certs (which
are per domain-name).
Same is true for Internet founder/research groups - which gets cut of the
whole business (a tax that essentially give the US R&D community a long term
$$ payoff for making the internet open)
Given the discussion of vanity identifiers (that OpenID delegation leverages
and promotes), I'm a bit surprised that there is not MORE VC money and
interest in openid services companies yet (like we did at VeriSign with the
founding $5.5M, once certs had clearly moved from the tech wars to
management services).
Be interesting to know who is pushing Snorri, and giving the 50k. I have
some private guesses, given the DNS TLD + OpenID hookup. Still 50k is an
irrelevant market move. Even 150k is but a medium size, short term
consultancy engagement, for the likes of a PWC, say. But, it's enough to be
buying someone like a PWC's analysis reputation- if they make as a +ve
recommendation based on a thorough investigation of the issues.

Dear Ben Laurie,
Your link/point of view is probably in the truth,
But many companies and organizations will do it! (.ebay?, .sport...)
I will also defend candidacies for different French cities/regions (.Paris,
.CSC, .BZH,...)
It's seems very important for these communities... and "local identities"
I specify that I'm not initiator of the "dotOpenID Project"!
(but a private sponsor asked me to manage this project)
Thank you for this understanding!
Regards
-Snorri
