Let's not forget that ping identity actually deployed a feature in the SAML world on this very topic. The OASIS group apparently has a profile spec to consider, addressing what they did. As the scheme is reliant on https and PKI, the ultra powerful academic samlistas in OASIS will probably kill it though (since the UK/US/Scandinavian academic federations have *apparently* all declared war on PKI/SSL certs).

Pretty clearly, the hard bit is resolving an email address to a URL.
Once you have a URL its easy. Seems you glossed over the hard part
there...
