Here we're at the "most users" stage where we usually don't have our 
own servers that we are physically adjacent to 24/7; yes, it's 
technically *possible* to run "our own" authoritative DNS, just as 
it's possible to run "our own" webserver, but in practice someone 
else is doing this on our behalf. I haven't seen many 
logging/authentication DNS services offered for sale to the general 
public, though, whereas webservers usually have many options for that 
built-in, and more 3rd-party solutions for adding (or enabling) it.
