>On another, it's huge:

You've stumbled across a direction I was hoping OpenID would
eventually head in (or at least make it easier to go in), and I can
confirm that several of the benefits you listed (plus a lot more)
would be possible. I've been thinking about the technical side for a
few years now, but from what I understand of where we are now (with
Web 2.0), when XRI hits mainstream it'll be about as far away as XRI
is now :(

I don't think that it will work, then, for the "easing OpenID into
mainstream" (OpenID is between XRI and mainstream!) you were after -
though I do encourage you to pursue this worthwhile goal ;)

>I think I'm simply bringing up a different perspective on the same
>technical problem. Which substantially expands the "market" for this
>kind of technology from "only interesting to newfangled
>projects" (like OpenID) to "everybody".

I confess that I only learned about OpenID because I was looking for
a way to exceed the username length limit and bring
'shadowsinthegarden' (18) to blog comments. What truly drew my
fascination was the realization that its focus on decentralization
(and openness, but mostly on decentralization) could make a good
position from which to bridge into this other idea I had.

In a way, we're all looking for a way to ease adoption :)
