In theory, OpenID can be used as an email verification protocol, for 
emails addresses belonging to the OP. For instance, a user with a 
@yahoo.com email address could verify their email by having the Yahoo OP 
return an assertion containing the user's email address. (Assuming that 
Yahoo supports SReg/AX)

Email verification is a major pain point for websites, so perhaps OpenID 
can be used as a mechanism to streamline email verification for users 
whose email providers are also OPs.
