If you're not subscribed to the specs at openid.net mailing list (http://openid.net/mailman/listinfo/specs
) you probably haven't yet seen three new proposals to charter working
groups that have been made in the past week or two. While discussion
of the proposals will ideally *remain on the specs list*, I wanted to
make sure everyone knew about these proposals, took the time to read
them over and comment if you're interested in doing so.
Proposal to create the TX working group:
http://openid.net/pipermail/specs/2008-October/002426.html
The purpose of this WG is to produce a standard OpenID extension to
the OpenID Authentication
protocol that enables arbitrary parties to create and exchange a
mutually-digitally-signed legally
binding "contract". This protocol extension aims to be both broadband
and mobile friendly by
defining appropriate bindings for each use case.
Proposal to create the OpenID OAuth Hybrid Working Group
http://openid.net/pipermail/specs/2008-November/002430.html
Produce a standard OpenID extension to the OpenID Authentication
protocol that provides a
mechanism to embed an OAuth approval request into an OpenID
authentication request to
permit combined user approval. The extension addresses the use case
where the OpenID
Provider and OAuth Service Provider are the same service. To provide
good user experience,
it is important to present a combined authentication and
authorization screen for the two
protocols.
Proposing an OpenID Authentication 2.1 Working Group
http://openid.net/pipermail/specs/2008-November/002435.html
Correct errata and update the Authentication 2.0 specification based
upon feedback from
public implementations while maintaining backwards compatibility with
OpenID Authentication
2.0 to the greatest degree possible.
I look forward to continuing to discuss all three of these proposals
on the list and this week at IIW!
Cheers,
--David
