Does your example RP work with "http://yahoo.com", or are you using a
custom RP?  You can see how it should work by trying out the PHP demo
RP at

  http://openidenabled.com/php-openid/trunk/examples/consumer/

Also, be sure you don't have the 1.x.x library in your PHP
include_path, since that version of the library will not recognize
yahoo.com as an identifier.
