[OpenID] Proposal for OpenID Language Extension

It would be useful to allow this to be passed around, although I agree about
your thoughts on the browser setting this. It was getting too much of a
headache to allow the user to come to en.username.domain.org or some of the
other ways often used to indicate language.
So I just default to the browser settings (a problem if I am in a Japanese
web café!) but let them choose from a list and set a cookie (again I've
always found this technique a bit odd though as I dont know what "language"
looks like in Japanese and I'd guess the same is true for many Japanese
people! So how do you change your language in this case.... a crazy
experience a few years back when I screwed up my Hotmail settings taught me
this). Clearly it would be nice to seamlessly move from replying party to
the OP. How many times do you want to set your language.
Can't the relying party not manage your wishes?
Regards,
Steven

Hi!
Good idea, but shouldn't the language be determined via the browser settings
or via my personal settings at the OP?
I mean, if the relying party (who else) is an English website it would set
the xopenid_lang_pref parameter to "en", while I might still prefer to use
the OP interface in German (my default/native language).

Betreff: [OpenID] Proposal for OpenID Language Extension
Hi Everybody,
OpenID is gaining plenty of momentum worldwide, and it's important that
we support multiple languages. I started a brief proposal on the OpenID
twiki to allow an RP to pass the user's language preference the OP help
localize the sign in flow:
http://wiki.openid.net/OpenIDLanguagePreference
The proposal is based on OAuth's Language Preference extension.
I'm also very happy to announce that Yahoo's OP has experimental support
for several languages, including English, Spanish, German, French,
Chinese, Italian, and Korean. The twiki contains links to display the
Yahoo OpenID sign in screens in the supported languages.
Thanks
Allen
