You you conceed that this is in violation of RFC 2616 then.

You mentioned that the specification writers have explicitly stated that it was
their intention to break HTTP, can you provide a citation for this?

I agree that any body has the right to violate standards as and when they choose
but that doesn't necessarily make it a good engineering choice, neither does
providing examples of how other people have violated standards in the past.
