It's not only in India but worldwide.
Before we started our start up venture, we at XeQure solutions, conducted a survey asking general internet users (In Canada, USA and India) about Open ID - none had heard of Open ID and when we explained the concept to them, they did not really comprehend. The traditional sign in method has been the norm and asking consumers to change their habits is not that easy. Consumers have learned that a user name is their ID and a URL is a place to go and it will be a pretty difficult task to educate them on Open ID. The "open" concept is great for techies/developers but not for the consumer. A consumer wants his ID to be "secure". Only the savvy people are most likely use Open ID because they understand and know how to use it ...unfortunately they comprise a small percent of the total internet population. It will take mass use for Open ID to become a success.
Open ID sounds great, but in my opinion, it’s not really ready for the mass. I am pretty sure that its going to take a long time to get everybody on the bandwagon and if and when Open ID becomes the norm we will definately implement it on XeQure.
