We are one of the first or may be first OpenID provider in India. One of our action item is to promote the OpenID in India and for this we have started interacting with the website owners.

Our learning is that website owners here (and may be elsewhere as well) are not able to grasp strategic benefit from the OpenID. They only see single user-id / password as a benefit to end user.

This is our pitch. We see following strategic benefits to website owners:

* The first one i.e. for the end user (which is definitely very vital but happy end users is a site owner benefit as well).
* They tend to miss direct benefits to them. Today they get only those users whom they solicit but miss on those who are solicited by other similar businesses like them. OpenID brings extra traffic to their website without spending that extra effort.
* No more multiple registrations for end user. As per the published data (my personal behavior is in line with it) says - Over 50% of the visitors to a website give up and go elsewhere when they realize that they will have to sign up.
* End User stickiness - If people come back to a site they don't visit often and when they see login page they tend to go away as they would have forgotten their password. Not every body takes extra effort of choosing 'Forgot Password' link. On other hand if they have to use same login which they use more often then they are likely to remember password and go through sign-in process quickly.
* Providers can give them much more analytics on their users' behavior pattern (this can be anonymous to keep user identity private and report something like 30% of people who visit your site also visit site ‘x’).
* And finally providers like us will be spending our own efforts to get people to register on our website. And we can give proper prominence to our partners. So our users will be automatically their users as well.
