[OpenID] Supporting OpenID

Hi Will, I'll walk carefully here :-)

My assessment

1) Google's app engine allows applications (unaffiliated with the legal
entity Google) to leverage Google's user accounts through a Users API
2) One such application is called openid-provider, it uses the above API
and layers a thin OpenID layer on top
3) the above application is an interesting & cool experiment, the
purpose of which (I would guess) is to demonstrate the power of the
underlying app engine
4) when a user authenticates to Google at the request of the
openid-provider application, Google makes it plain that the application
is not a Google application.

If somebody else built a WS-Federation shim (or an Infocard server) on
top of the Google app engine, it would be just as wrong to say " Google
now supports WS-Federation' or 'Google supports Cardspace'.

paul

p.s. 90% of my online life is on Google servers - I will rejoice on the
day when my Gmail becomes an OpenID (as is already the case for my
blogger id).
