Some whining is best ignored.

Blogs are atrocious if the purpose is discussion.
Mailing lists have their problems, but there's really
no comparison if the purpose is discussion.

Blogs might be OK if the purpose is announcement or
cheerleading.

Wikis are good for summaries after discussions have
happened.  But someone has to take the initiative and
do the summary.

Just about all of what's been happening is discussion;
keep emailing.  Or someone create a forum/newsgroup.
