[OpenID] Support in Browsers

I have heard tell - probably from one of Simon's slides - of direct
support for OpenID in browsers such as the next major release of
Firefox. I am also aware of Verisign's plugin.

Can anyone comment more concretely as to who is planning what in the
browser world?

I think usability remains a barrier to OpenID proliferation and
direct browser support could be part of the answer. My reason for
thinking this goes back to basic authentication which mostly conforms
to a model that people are quite used to. I notice that when it's
not used there are so many ways to do it with web pages that users
can get confused. This is why I think that a consistent way of
prompting for OpenID would be a great help, even if not universally
adopted. It would be better still if this allowed for the dual login
scenario that tends to be necessary when introducing OpenID to a site
that already has a community of username/password users.
