[I had initially written thru that gmane interface and it played
havoc with my settings. Sorry for the re-post moderators.]

May be you can help me understand some of the finer points ...

a) "+ I can click on a URL in a browser and it opens a web page. I can't
do that with an XRI today."

Would this not stand the test ?
http://xri.net/=rajeev/(+blog)

There is also a firefox plugin that *will* accept an xri://=rajeev, I believe.

b) + Anyone with a domain name can create as many OpenIDs as they want

I thought this was true with an XRI scheme as well. =rajeev*kid1 ..
=rajeev*kid99

c) i-names cost real money. Many people and organizations already have
everything they need to have an OpenID.

And openid's don't ? As someone pointed out before, it is only free till the
free hosting provider tolerates it. I do agree that $20 is a rip-off.

d) + I-names introduce a brand new directory and infrastructure.
What is wrong with that ?

e) how you prove that *you* are the one that controls the i-number is
a critical point of failure

Frankly I do not even understand the concern and how this is not a
concern with your proposal and/non-xri proposal

It may come across as if I am defending XRI. I may be - but only to an
extent that I do not understand the alternative and wonder aloud if
the reasons for alternatives are based on politics rather than clarity.
