Absolutely. This is how phpbb-openid addresses those concerns (quoting
its user-visible FAQ):

Q. Will my OpenID be visible to change?
A. That's totally up to. When you log in for the first time, your
OpenID is filled into your Website field. You may promptly replace or
remove it in Profile.
