Because it makes your user's lives easier - and if you're just
starting out, it increases the chances that early adopters will try
out your service. Looking further ahead, accepting OpenID should have
other benefits as well - like being able to import friend data from
other services with the user's permission. As far as I'm concerned,
the spam stuff is just a distraction from the really interesting
benefits of OpenID.
