Yes.

Open Social is a system for sticking widgets into pages. From
http://code.google.com/apis/opensocial/ : "The ultimate goal is for any
social website to be able to implement the APIs and host 3rd party
social applications." 

XFN is a great output format for friends, and identifies people with
URLs, just like OpenID.* It lacks the step where the person named as a
friend is automatically notified of that fact. That's where the above
protocol steps in.
