I know now why I didnt cite it, it was obligated under university rules to get to the PhD dissertation form of the work; and could not obtain it. 
 
The paper cites the phd publication, and thus I could not cite the paper without having to possibly defend the indefensible - material Id never read in the unobtainable phd dissertation.
 
Rule; once you start writing post-doctoral papers, DON'T cite your phd dissertation.
