In summary:
* Yadis is a protocol for discovering what identity-related services are
available for a given URL.
* OpenID authentication is one such service.
* NetMesh's LID is another such service.
* Other services can be added at any time by anyone, without discussing
it with the Yadis community. (though of course, such discussion is
welcomed!)
Thus, the aim of Yadis is to provide a standard way to ask questions
like "Does this URL support <service X>?" or "What services does this
URL support?"
The aim of OpenID is to authenticate as a URL-based identity.
