[OpenID] OpenID logo outcome ...

Indeed -- I'm glad that the question was raised, nonetheless, and
think that it's important that we capture the gist of the meeting that
we had at IIW. Johannes touched on this on the STODID podcast, #45:

Essentially I argued a few points, in brief:

* OpenID should be a community mark (as opposed to a trademark) --
this is essential for spreading OpenID to the edges... otherwise, if
we centralize the ownership of the mark, we have to enforce it to
maintain ownership; furthermore, it should be up to the community to
enforce what constitutes proper use of the mark and that it should be
up to the members of the community to resolve incorrect or
inappropriate uses of the mark
* that we need a coherent marketing and rollout plan for OpenID 2.0,
which includes human-friendly documentation, interface guidelines,
best practices and error handling guidelines (some of which are
covered in the spec) and FAQs
* a new icon and identity -- that represents OpenID 2.0 -- as a rather
new and important improvement over OpenID 1.1 -- and that use of the
mark will indicate the full support of the OpenID 2.0 protocol
* that we need an overhaul of the major OpenID web properties into a
coherent set of resources that each have their place and are not
redundant.

Brought together, the goal is to figure out a Spread Firefox-style
campaign for OpenID (SpreadOpenID?) that will launch perhaps in
February. We haven't locked down much yet, but this list outlines some
of the thinking that we've done so far about opportunities.

Thoughts, opinions, questions and comments welcome.
