[Code] Example consumer: What is the reason for returning variables by reference

Hi,

I started using consumer example and got this warning "Only variable references should be returned by reference" in Auth/Common.php line 62"

This issue is fixed in issue 19 and I think it is not released yet.

My question is, is there a particular reason to return values by reference in examples/consumer/common.php?
