[OpenID board] BOARD VOTE: Motion to update Rails plugin and OpenID.net ...

Hello All,

To Dick's point, if we want to defer spending the $2K until after the new BOD is place, one other option to consider for the near term is to put a new front end on RPX that is vendor neutral - the same text type in box that we used to have. Larry created a mockup and I'd imagine that Refresh Media could implement this a lot less expensively than the current proposal. Here's the link to a demo: http://rpxdata.appspot.com/oem_plain_demo

We'd need to get Refresh to confirm, but I don't think it would take much time to make the change.

If we wanted to remain vendor neutral, but also make it easier for users (not have to remember the URL format or type in the full URL), we could also put an ID Selector-like front end on that at least shows the top X number of OPs listed alphabetically and still allow the full manual type in interface (see below). With this approach you can either just type in your OpenID URL or you can click on your provider to either pre-format your URL or get directed identity login. AOL has a similar but snappier front end on CitySearch we might consider modifying to include all the top N OPs in alphabetical order, maybe they'd even be willing to do that for free if we asked them nicely.

Cheers,

Brian

$2,000 is significant to many open source projects.

It seems ironic to pay money for something free so that we don't use a

commercial product that is being provided free. :-)
